The art show takes place at the SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS gallery in L.A. from January 24 through February 22, 2014. According to the event’s press release, the show, titled “Avenues & Alleyways,” features “drawings, paintings, watercolors, and mixed media works on found materials that have been collaboratively selected by Armstrong and Shepard Fairey. The range in medium, size, and subject matter provide a well-rounded presentation of Armstrong’s honest and unrefined artistic charm. The imagery includes figures in Armstrong’s life, tools of his trade, album covers for deceased musicians, and poetic ruminations scrawled across simple line drawings.”

Armstrong’s artistic creativity was seen in 2011 when he announced his musical theater web series project Tim Timebomb’s RockNRoll Theater. Rolling Stone described it as “a cross between Rocky Horror Picture Show and anthology TV series like Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.”

For those who might be unfamiliar with Tim Armstrong, he has been in several influential bands during his musical career including Operation Ivy and Rancid. The latter is credited with the mainstream revival of punk rock in the mid-1990s, and is reportedly “one the most commercially successful and respected punk bands of all time.”

The musician, artist, director, poet, and record producer also owns independent record label Hellcat, an imprint label of Epitaph.

As Alternative Press describes, the opening night for “Avenues & Alleyways” will feature a live performance from Tim Timebomb & Friends, and “a limited edition box set with 45 prints will also be released to attendees of the reception.” The reception is free and open to the public, but SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS expects to hit capacity early, so showing up early is strongly recommended. The opening night event runs from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
