How do you revitalize your small town and attract tourists? By building a UFO shaped like a hotel, of course!
This is exactly what Baker, California resident and businessman Luis Ramallo is attempting.
Baker is a sleepy town of approximately 700 residents in the Mojave desert. The town is supported primarily by tourism because people pass through Baker on the route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Ramallo wants to put Baker on the map and attract tourists by constructing a multimillion-dollar hotel in the shape of a flying saucer. He already owns the land, and the permits were approved by the San Bernardino County planning commission in 2014. And Ramallo is ready to push forward with his vision.
He just launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to raise money to move the hotel to the next phase, which requires a detailed set of plans and construction drawings.
The campaign describes,
So as we designed the hotel, we took the time to stretch ourselves and push all the limits to make every inch of the hotel the most extraordinary it could possibly be. After months of planning, we’ve stretched our imaginations to come up with a hotel that surpasses our wildest dreams. We have crafted the hotel’s plan with such detail and fantastic design that every room, down to every inch of the walls will satisfy the dreams of science fiction fans everywhere.
And Ramallo adds, “When you get into the hotel, you are aware you’re in a spaceship. You are not in a hotel. You are in a spaceship. So all the hallways, all the rooms, all the windows are gonna be looking at space. You’re not gonna be looking at Baker, or see the freeway. You’re gonna be looking at space. You’re in a spaceship.”
The concept art for this place looks extremely rad.
Ramallo already runs an alien-themed business in Baker–Alien Fresh Jerky. But after dreaming up this UFO hotel idea for more than a decade, he wants to move forward.
Do yourself and the rest of the word a favor and consider chipping in a couple bucks help make The UFO Hotel a reality.
