Since it was first announced that Neill Blomkamp (District 9Chappie) will be bringing his vision for the Alien franchise to the big screen, fans have been waiting patiently for more news from the production. Recently, Blomkamp revealed another piece of concept art that continues to tease the return of both Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, and Michael Biehn as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks.

#alien going very well. Love this project

His caption on the image puts us in good spirits, as does his passion for the franchise, which has fizzled out over the years due to some less than stellar sequels and additions to the series.

Recently, Sigourney Weaver described how she really feels about the Alien vs Predator additions, and how it affected her role in the franchise:

I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs Predator. Which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies. It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman. In fact, Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until this was announced, and he dropped out, because he also wanted to do an Alien sequel.

Could you cause any more problems, Aliens vs Predator? Obviously we’ve seen Scott return to the franchise with Prometheus and its upcoming sequel, but fans are eager to see another entry into the Alien franchise featuring Ripley. Not to mention Cpl. Hicks, who was unceremoniously killed off for David Fincher’s troubled Alien 3.

It was initially a round of concept art from Blomkamp that featured a new look for the xenomorph – while also showcasing Ripley and Hicks – that got fans talking. It was also presumably the fan buzz that got the project greenlit from Fox shortly after the concept art hit the web.

We’ll continue to wait with bated breath for more news from Blomkamp as his Alien project comes together. Are you excited to see more from Blomkamp? Would you rather see the franchise continue solely with Prometheus or is Blomkamp the right person to renew the franchise? Let us know in the comments section below!
