Disney made Star Wars geeks extremely happy by making a huge announcement at this year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
Disney bought Lucasfilm back in 2012, adding incredible properties to its roster including Star Wars and Indiana Jones. And, at that time, Disney made its intentions known to expand the presence of Star Wars at its theme parks.
Some of those plans were announced by Disney on Saturday, August 15 at D23. Walt Disney Chairman/CEO Bob Iger revealed that Star Wars-themed lands are coming to Disneyland in Anaheim, CA and to Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, FL.
“I am thrilled to announce the next chapter in the long and exciting history between Disney Parks and Star Wars,” said Iger. He continued, “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single themed land expansion ever. These new lands at Disneyland and Walt Disney World will transport guests to a whole new Star Wars planet, including an epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.”
One of the signature attractions will be . . . you guessed it–The Millennium Falcon.
Some of these planned Star Wars expansions could be completed this year. So it’s time to start planning your Disneyland or Disney World vacation!
