China’s Jade Rabbit rover landed on the Moon back in December 2013 as part of China’s Chang’e-3 mission. But, sadly, the rover suffered a “mechanical control abnormality” and its future is uncertain and potentially grim.

As the Associated Press explains, the official Xinhua News Agency has personified the rover, reporting fictitious diary entries from Jade Rabbit, who is depicted as “a heroic adventurer who has encountered an obstacle that might prove insurmountable, and who is trying to put on a brave face as it pens what might be its final farewell.”

On the February 4 episode of The Daily Show, host Jon Stewart made fun of the rover’s situation. But then, as Geeks of Doom explains, Sir Patrick Stewart “appeared as the Jade Rabbit sending its dying message from the Moon.”
