First ‘Star Trek Beyond’ trailer lands with a bang

We weren’t supposed to get our first glimpse at the latest Star Trek film until we were knee-deep in Wookie fur. But on Monday, after an International trailer was leaked to YouTube, Paramount Pictures released the official English version for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond.

Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) has taken over for J.J. Abrams, who we hear was too busy with some other space movie, and from the looks of it, lightened things up a bit. The aim of Beyond was to take us back to the unknown, exploring planets outside our comfort zone and meeting unknown civilizations, getting back to Star Trek’s roots. I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m getting a strong Guardians of the Galaxy vibe from this.

Star Trek Beyond is directed by Justin Lin (Fast and the Furious) and stars Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Zach Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Idris Elba, John Cho, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. The film hits theaters July 22, 2016.
