First trailer for alien sci-fi ‘Arrival’ released

August 17, 2016 Maureen Elsberry

The first official trailer for Arrival, based off of Ted Chiang’s 1998 novella, “Story of Your Life” is ready for visual consumption.

According to Paramount Pictures,

When mysterious spacecrafts touch down across the globe, an elite team – lead by expert linguist Louise Banks (Amy Adams) – is brought together to investigate. As mankind teeters on the verge of global war, Banks and the team race against time for answers – and to find them, she will take a chance that could threaten her life, and quite possibly humanity.

The trailer provides a brief glimpse at these extraterrestrial visitors, and they certainly appear to look like a sea creature we’re all familiar with. But, before you go jumping into an octopus alien-DNA disclosure rant, count those leggies. . . this particular race are Heptapods, which means they’re one appendage shy of our mysterious underwater friends.

Arrival, directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker hits theaters November 11, 2016.
