He’s been campaigning for the role since last September, and revealed he had a meeting about playing the character back in April, and now longtime “X-Men” producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirms that Channing Tatum is Gambit. Though no official deal has been put in place, Donner revealed to Total Film that, to her at least, Tatum is the character.

“Well you know he’s a rogue, Channing. He’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau, and he can handle the action, we all know that. He’s got a really good heart, because I know him personally, I did a movie with him. So I think he’ll be great, he’ll be great for Gambit, and he’s a southerner too, he’s not from New Orleans but he is a southerner and he understands that world, and you know Gambit loves New Orleans.”

Director Bryan Singer previously teased that he was planning on bringing Gambit into the fold for X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016, so expect to hear even more details on Tatum’s casting as they enter negotiations.
