Good news, geeks! Fox officials have confirmed that talks are underway about possibly rebooting the cult classic television series The X-Files.
Fox chairmen/CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman recently told Entertainment Weekly that they have been in talks with X-Files creator Chris Carter about resurrecting the show. And the hope is to have series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their iconic roles as the duo of paranormal-investigating FBI agents.
Walden says that she and Newman have maintained good relationships with Carter, Anderson, and Duchovny. But she suggests that, due to the actors’ schedule, it’s difficult to get them on board for the project. “We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy,” she explains. “They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”
But, as she recently revealed on an episode of the Nerdist Podcast, Gillian Anderson is more than ready to make a new X-Files TV show happen.
Discussions about the show at the executive level are good news for fans of the show who have clamored for more X-Files since the show went off the air in 2002. Hopefully these discussions continue. And, obviously, let’s hope that Anderson and Duchovny reprise their roles.
